My Story
I think its important that if your going to hire a trainer to help you with your physical and mental wellbeing then you should know the background of that person. So here's a brief look at my story, where I started, my training history and a look at my life outside of the gym. Hopefully after reading this you can trust that my life experiences have put me in a perfect place to be able to help you on your fitness journey.
Starting out
Iv been a personal trainer working in the Ormskirk area since 2012. I'm also the owner of Evolve 24/7 gym close to Ormskirk town centre.
I was born in Burnley in 1989 and I moved to Ormskirk in 2007 where I attended Edge Hill University studiying Physical Education. I decided to stay in Ormskirk when I was offered a job as a personal trainer in fit for life gym. I worked as a PT in this gym for around 6 years, gaining vital experience of the fitness industry while building my client base.
In 2018 I was confident enough that I had built up a large enough client base and a solid enough reputation to enable me to leave the comfort of the gym and set up my own personal training studio.
It turned out to be the best decision I could have made and I hit the ground running. By the end of my first year I had expanded the studios and hired multiple personal trainers to help me with the demand of personal training bookings.
Covid and Opening Evolve 24/7
March 2020 changed everything for me as it did for many people. When covid hit we followed governemnt order and closed the gym. This was devastating for me after having such a good start to being business owner but it was out of my hands. The gym closed but I continued to personal train some clients online via zoom.
As soon as we were allowed to train people face to face again I began to train people outside using minimal equipment. I slowly started to build back my client base but like most of the PTs in the area we never really hit the numbers we had pre covid. Covid really hit the industy hard and with the rising costs of everything associated with owning a business, a PT only facility wasnt viable anymore. So I decided to open a members gym when in 2022 I was offered to opportunity to take over an already established 24/7 gym in Ormskirk. That is Evolve 24/7 gym which I manage and personal train out of today.
Family Life
In 2023 my life changed forever when my partner Rebecca gave birth to our first child Ava. This was obviously a super exciting time for us but also super stressful. Being a business owner and trying to navigate life as a new Dad takes its toll.
It wasn't going to get any easier for us either as 3 months after Ava was born we found out that Rebecca was pregnant again. This time with twins! We had gone from no children to 3 babies in under 2 years.
At the time of writing this Ava is not far off 2 years old and the twins Olivia and Archie will soon be 1. I'v just gone through the most tiring and stressful 12 months of my life. Three under two is no joke.
I am so blessed to be a father of three babies and I will never lose sight of that. However during the last 12 months I did have some super low points. With the lack of sleep, relentless demands of looking after three babies and trying to run a business I ended up letting myself go, I put a lot of weight on and lost all of my fitness. An extreamly hard place to be when your somebody who has preached fitness all his adult life.
My Own Fitness Journey
Through my 20's I devoted my life to being the fittest and best version of me I could be. With no real responsibilities and spending most of my time in the gym for work this came relitivley easy for me.
However I let my own training really stall when the babies came along. I really did let life get the better of me and let I my fitness slip out of control. No sleep leads to lots of stress and lots of bad choices. I'm most certainly a foodie and that was my coping mechanism between 2023 and 2025. Bad food choices and lots of them. Pair that with me constantly telling myself that I was to tired to exercise. I was not in a good place. People often have the assumption that personal trainers are the perfect role models but the reality is that we are only human and we suffer the same struggles as everybody else. My day to day changed forever when I had kids, it took me a while to adapt but after two years and 3 stone of weight gain I finally found a fitness routine that fit my hectic lifestyle.
In January 2025 I took a look at myself in the mirror and decided enough was enough. It was time to stop making excuses and take back control of my own fitness. I made a plan and stuck to it as best I could and to this date I am 2 stone lighter than I was when I started.
This plan wasn't like any I had made before because I had to be realistic to how much time I could commit to exercise. Also I had to factor in the fact my sleep would be limited and at times my days would be very unpredictable. This last few months Iv learnt so much about how to adapt a healthy lifestyle and fitness routine around being a busy parent. These are skills I want to be able to pass on to my clients. The first hand experience iv gained has been priceless.
I bet for some of you this last couple of paragraphs sounds familiar. I bet you have found yourself in a similar situation. A busy work life and demanding home life always being the excuse for why you cant diet and exercise. Im telling you for certain that if you truly do want to make a change then you can. I am proof. It dosnt matter how small you start. All the small changes will eventually make a big difference. Let me help you.
